Flyer design in 2021

Flyer delivery or leaflet distribution can be one of the most effective marketing techniques a London business can use. Especially a business that focuses on serving its local area. A flyer drop or a leaflet distribution campaign however can only reach its full potential if the leaflet itself is designed well.

Let’s talk about flyer design in 2021 and how it might be approached differently compared to a few years ago. We are going to specifically focus on flyers and leaflets designed for door to door leaflet distribution in London.

Simplicity

Flyer design in 2021

Simplicity is the main focus in leaflet design in the modern world. Even a decade ago it wasn’t unusual for a leaflet to use a good amount of text explaining the history of a company and all the various services they might be offering.

This is not a type of leaflet that can work anymore. The right approach for flyer design in 2021 is keeping your message simple and your design also. We generally recommend for one side of your leaflet to be dominated by a single image (often of your product) and for the other side of the leaflet to include information about a single product or a service you offer.

If you offer multiple types of services the right approach is to use multiple leaflets and focus more of multi-drop campaigns. Each leaflet tailored to each type of service or product.

A simple leaflet however puts a lot of pressure on the quality of the image that is being used and the conceptual thinking of the designer. We can help you with both of these elements. We at The Private Postman have designers we work with internally. These are people we’ve trained and that truly understand what a leaflet design should look like.

We can also help you source high quality photographs relevant to your flyers if you don’t have any yourself.

Basic Formats

Another important thing to keep in mind is to keep the formats you print your leaflets on simple. A5 or A6 single page leaflets no more than 300gsm and no less than 150gsm is the way to go in 99% of the cases.

Complicated formats with gate folds, Z-fold systems or other formats that include multiple pages are generally a source of more issues than benefits. Producing and printing these is often considerably more expensive.

So is moving, storing and delivering them. On top of this it can be difficult to keep an unruly multi page or folded leaflet from being damaged when being delivered through some letterboxes in London.

This is not to say that delivering a booklet is never possible and always a bad idea but the formats for these need to be seriously considered to allow for the best quality of delivery possible.
