Council houses and leaflet distribution

Delivering leaflets to council houses is a somewhat contentious issue. Some companies choose to include council houses in their numbers of households per postcode and deliver to them when possible, others don’t. Let’s have a look at council houses and leaflet distribution.

Are council houses included in the TPP mapping system

Council houses and leaflet distribution

One of the most important elements of The Private Postman delivery system is our approach to mapping the London areas we cover.

Many leaflet distribution companies choose to print out maps of a given postcode, look up the government official numbers of households and simply combine the two. That way they get a map of an area and a number of households within it.

We at The Private Postman prefer a much more diligent and correct approach. We look at small subsets of postcodes that have an identity in terms of demographics. We then combine these into what we call ‘Groups’ of approximately five thousands households.

The way we get to this number is by actually counting homes and doorbells in each London area. On top of this we deliver to each of these ‘Groups’ on weekly basis. We know exactly how many leaflet get delivered in each area and that way we can run a system with completely accurate numbers.

Leaflet distribution to council houses poses multiple issues but maybe the most important one to point out in this context is the fact that access to these council houses in not always guaranteed.

In order to fit into our very precise system we need to know that we can deliver your leaflets into each household in our system reliably every single time. This way we can keep our system accurate and never waste your leaflets.

Having a sizeable proportion of a ‘Group’ made up of council houses that may or may not be delivered to is not possible with a system that is to be targeted and accurate.

Council houses and leaflet distribution don’t go well together when they are a part of traditional door to door drop to residential homes. As a result we do not include council houses in our mapping system in London.

So do you deliver to council houses?

Since the beginning of the company we have been operating with the approach of ignoring council houses and we never delivered to them.

This has changed in 2020 when we decided to develop a system that allows us to run council house specific deliveries with accurate tracking, reliable deliveries and consistent numbers. We can do this all over London and at prices comparable to our traditional door to door distribution.

Even to a point of running shared distribution which has been something exclusive to door to door distribution up to this point.
